Denim never goes out of fashion, but it can be reinvented. This season sees the rise of smart denim. Invest in dark denim and use pastels to balance it out. Think high waisted, wide and cropped – but be careful where the denim cuts at your ankle. These are often worn with sock boots to give you a full-length look.

Light wash wide leg jeans, Miss Selfridge £36.00
Navy wide leg jeans, River Island £40.00
Check doesn’t have to belong on a winter scarf or jacket. This season the catwalks were full of lightweight checks and ginghams! Again, the key to wearing this trend is doing it completely head to toe.
